Ariana Grande vs. Cody Simpson – Pop Clash
With Chris Brown‘s ‘Fine China’ retiring to the Pop Clash Hall of Fame, after four straight weeks of total domination, it’s time to pit two entirely new songs against each other in PopCrush’s fan-voted battle for best track. This week, we’ve got Ariana Grande‘s latest single ‘The Way’ going head-to-head with Cody Simpson‘s new single ‘Pretty Brown Eyes.’ So, which tune do you like best?
‘The Way’ is Grande’s lead single off of her debut album, ‘Daydreamin’,’ supposedly due out sometime during the summer months of 2013. Although she is widely known for her role on Nickelodeon’s ‘Victorious,’ all that is changing thanks to this mellifluous single, which showcases Grande’s amazing vocals beautifully.
Also featuring a rap verse from Mac Miller, the bubbly but semi-sexy love song finds the very gifted Grande singing about the “bad” boy who makes her heart flutter: ”You give me that kind of somethin’ / Want it all the time, need it everyday / On a scale of 1 to 10 I’m at 100 / Never get enough, I can’t stay away.”
Meanwhile, Cody Simpson is also serving up a dose of sugar with his sweet-as-candy single ‘Pretty Brown Eyes.’ Just like most things Simpson does, the track has a beachy vibe, with airy acoustic guitars, groovable percussion and a breathy, insanely catchy chorus full of falsetto: “And I said / Hey there pretty brown eyes / Whatcha doing later tonight? / Would you mind if I spent a minute with you?”
Simpson even spits a few rhymes during the last verse (“Hey hey little pretty brown eyes / Don’tcha ever be looking at them other guys / ‘Cause ain’t never had no surfer like me / Start swimming over here and ride my wave“), and further incorporates some hip-hop influences with the slow-mo breakdown, “Go to sleep / Wake up / You’re pretty with / No makeup.”
